Vanitas was a Renaissance term for still life that expressed the transience of life.  Skulls, flowers, fruit, and seafood reminded the viewer of the perishability of material things.

My Vanitas paintings are meditations on aging.  Reflections of myself represent the introspective reconsidering that is part of growing old. Calla lilies symbolize both death and  resurrection. Studio items which I often paint and the New York Landscape observed from my window symbolize my ongoing work.
